Proposed Robert E. Simon Recreation Center

ARCH Forum - July 7

ARCH will cosponsor a forum with WATCH (the Working Alliance of Town Center Homeowners) at the Jo Anne Rose Gallery at Lake Anne, on 7 July at 7 PM.

The forum will provide ARCH and WATCH members, and the community at large, with an opportunity to obtain information and ask questions about the proposed indoor recreation facility's funding, scope and size, location, and referenda requirements.

The Reston Association's (RA) and Reston Community Center's (RCC) have established a joint initiative to build and fund an up to a $100 Million dollar/170,000 square/foot Indoor Recreation Center that would include an indoor olympic sized swimming pool, up to 8 tennis courts, gym, fitness facilities and parking structure.

As residents of Small Tax District 5, this initiative will impact every home/property owner and business owner within Reston.  Each of us pay an annual Fairfax County Tax to support the Reston Community Center.  The proposal, the location for which is suggested to replace the ball diamonds and open space at Brown's Chapel, could also involve conveying Reston Association Member land to RCC, and-- as you are aware-- each homeowner pays an annual assessment to RA.

Background  info about the proposed indoor recreation facility is available from the following organizations:

For RA/RCC info on the project see respective web pages at

Reston Master Plan
Land Use College

Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning repeats the orientation class held on June 16, beginning a series of classes designed to acquaint Reston citizens with key elements of the County planning and development process.

Attendance at the Reston Land use College is helpful, but not required, in order to participate on a future citizen advisory group or task force. These classes provide a foundation for public participation in the upcoming study to update and revise the Reston Master Plan.

RA Headquarters

"ARCH recently carried your concerns forward to the Reston Association regarding RA's initiative to build a new headquarters," wrote ARCH President Jerry Volloy. "Now that RA's Referendum has failed, how RA might move forward with a buy, lease, or build of space is still a concern to our Members."

During ARCH's annual meeting on May 26, Patti Nicoson, the President of the Dulles Corridor Rail Association, provided an update on the status of metrorail.
